ROUTE: From Main Street and Jefferson Avenue, east on Jefferson to Central
Avenue, south on Central to E. 38th Street, east on 38th
to Ascot Avenue.
1918: Extended west from Main and Jefferson
to University Avenue, south
on University (USC campus) to Exposition
Boulevard
MAY 9, 1920: Became the ‘K’-Line.

‘K’-EAST JEFFERSON AND EAST 38th STREET LINE
(1920-1932)
Formed from old
route of same name and route, designated ‘K’-Line May 9, 1920.
ROUTE: From E. 38th Street (re-named E.
41st in 1937) and Ascot Avenue, west on 38th to Central
Avenue, north on Central to Jefferson Avenue, west on Jefferson to University
Avenue, south on University (USC campus) to Exposition Boulevard.
JULY 13, 1924: Service suspended due to power shortage.
DECEMBER 28, 1924: Normal
service restored.
JUNE 1926: Due to storm drain construction along Jefferson Avenue east
of Main Street,
service was cut back to the western portion from Main and Jefferson
to University Avenue
and Exposition Boulevard. Service on the eastern portion from Jefferson
and Griffith Avenues east to E. 38th
Street and Ascot Avenue was provided by rerouted
‘G’-Line cars.
AUGUST 29, 1926: Service returned to normal.
FEBRUARY 1, 1931: Service on University Avenue south from Jefferson Avenue to
Exposition Boulevard
abandoned with no replacement. Extended
west on Jefferson to Vermont Avenue.
JUNE 12, 1932: Rerouted and renamed ‘K’ East
Jefferson and West 39th
Street Line.
‘K’-EAST JEFFERSON AND WEST 39th STREET LINE
(1932)
Formed from the ‘K’-East
Jefferson and East 38th
Street Line, and the W. 39th Street branch of the
‘U’-University Line. Service begun June 2, 1932.
ROUTE: From E. 38th Street and Ascot
Avenue, east on 38th to Central Avenue, north on Central to
Jefferson Avenue, west on Jefferson to Vermont Avenue, south on Vermont to W.
39th Street, west on 39th (via a short jog on Denker Avenue) to Western Avenue.
AUGUST 14,
1932: Service on W. 39th Street returned to
‘U’-Line, cut back to its previous terminal at Vermont
and Jefferson Avenues, and renamed with its former name, ‘K’-East
Jefferson and East 38th
Street Line.

STREET LINE (1932-1933)
Formed from the ‘K’ East
Jefferson and West 39th
Street Line minus the branch on W 39th Street, which was
returned to the ‘U’-Line.
ROUTE: Same as original line of
same name, from E. 38th
Street and Ascot Avenue, west on 38th to Central Avenue, north
on Central to Jefferson Avenue,
west on Jefferson
to Vermont Avenue.
FEBRUARY 13, 1932: Extended
south on Vermont Avenue
to Florence Avenue,
and renamed the ‘K’-East Jefferson and South
Vermont Line.

Jefferson and South Vermont Line minus the Vermont Avenue extension.
ROUTE: From East 38th and Ascot, west to
Central, north to Jefferson, west to Vermont
Avenue.
SEPTEMBER 11,
1933: Line again extended south on Vermont Avenue to Florence Avenue and
again renamed ‘K’-East Jefferson and South
Vermont Line.

LINE (1933)

Line plus trackage on south to Florence
Avenue daily except Sunday, 8:30am to
5:30pm only. Service starts
February 13, 1932.
ROUTE: From East 38th and Ascot west to Central,
north on Central to Jefferson, west on Jefferson to Vermont,
south on Vermont
to Florence Avenue.
JUNE 26,
1933: Line cut back to Jefferson and
Vermont Avenues and renamed back to ‘K’-East Jefferson
and E. 38th Street

(1933-1941)

from the ‘K’-East Jefferson and East 38th Street
Line plus trackage on South
Vermont Avenue, south from Jefferson Avenue to Florence Avenue.
ROUTE: From Ascot Avenue and E. 38th
Street (renamed E. 41st in 1937), west on 38th to Central
Avenue, north on Central to East Jefferson Avenue, west on Jefferson to South
Vermont Avenue, south on Vermont to Florence Avenue. Service starts September 11, 1933 until 6:55pm
daily except Sunday and legal holiday: after 6:55pm and on Sunday
and holidays service as far as Jefferson and Vermont only.
OCTOBER 5,1941: Rail service
on East 41st Street
and on Jefferson from Central Avenue to Vermont Avenue abandoned, all service
from Jefferson and Vermont Avenues by the ‘U’-University Line only.
